Potomac Memories
Line 2 of the 2nd verse - The Fairfax Stone in West Virginian, marks the source of the Northern Branch of the Potomac River.
I grew up in Virginia, near the Potomac River, although much of the area where I played as a young lad has changed quite a bit now.
In part, this SongPoem speaks of how a memory of a place or person can sometimes be crystal clear even though in 'reality' that person or place no longer exists.
These reflections are as seen thru the eyes of a war weary soldier...could be any war...anytime...any place...by any river.

Potomac Memories
Where the old Potomac River meets the Shenandoah
Far below the Fairfax Stone
A million years of memory the river has known
A still it sings to me own
And I am drifting, I am drifting
Like the leaves before the waterfalls
I am drifting, I am drifting
Like the leaves before the waterfalls
A million lonely mother's tears upon the river fall
Can't you hear their voices call
And now I know a single tear can change the river's song
This war, this war its been too long
And I am drifting, I am drifting
Like the leaves before the waterfalls
I am drifting, I am drifting
Like the leaves before the waterfalls
I am standing in the sunlight in the old Virginia hills
In these visions I carry in my mind
And though I walk alone, I travel with the friends I've known
Oh, this war is so unkind
And I am drifting, I am drifting
Like the leaves before the waterfalls
And I am drifting, I am drifting
Like the leaves before the waterfallsWe are drifting, you know we're drifting
Like the leaves before the waterfalls
